Distance learning courses overview

Birkbeck is a college of the University of London. We run four degrees for distance learning (with entry certificate routes) taught with full video streaming of lectures supported by digital lecture notes, email / phone / skype tutorials, optional residential fieldclasses and an electronic library:

1. BSc Geology (accredited by the Geological Society, London, with compulsory field classes & field mapping project).

2. BSc Earth Sciences (optional field classes and compulsory project).

3. BSc Environmental Geology (compulsory field classes and environmental project).

4. BSc Planetary Sciences with Astronomy (optional field classes with a compulsory project).

5. Certificates that act as entry courses for the 4 degrees above.

You can study from overseas, or from the UK, with the option to attend face-to-face classes because we also teach these degrees via evening study in central London, with Saturday sessions. Typical students may have an existing degree in a different subject and be working in a professional capacity, or have a non-traditional background of qualifications, or be an interested amateur geologist or planetary scientist. We have ~320 active students worldwide and have been teaching BSc Geology since about 1840, being one of the oldest colleges in the University of London.

Successful students receive a BSc honours degree from the University of London.
